10 million Americans who suffer on a daily basis from
anxiety disorder (a sustained acute disorder defined as lasting six months or
longer). This can be overwhelming and can manifest as social isolation, uncontrollable
worry, tension, irritability or anger, tiredness, insomnia,
restlessness, extreme anxiety, muscular aches and pains, and
palpitations.
Western treatments tend to center around prescription therapy to assist in restoring chemical balance to the brain. Most of these drugs are meant to be used in the
short-term and some can become addictive, such as valium and ativan.
Many can bring on undesirable side-effects such as sweating,
constipation, tremors, tiredness, decreased appetite, sexual
side-effects, and many other symptoms.
Millions
more Americans suffer daily from the stressful lives we live. This may
result in increased tension in the shoulders and neck, insomnia and
irritability.

The
nonspecific stress reaction serves to disturb the flow of energy or Qi
in the body and this reaction requires the correct differentiation of signs and symptoms
to reveal their roles. Various acupuncture points may be selected for treatment based on proper discernment of the
disharmony in the body. Acupuncture
is used widely in the stress reactions involved in rehabilitation from
addictions, post-traumatic stress and episodic stress syndromes as
well as sustained anxiety disorder.

For many years, I have worked with people
under high degrees of stress and anxiety. Clients suffering from
severe addiction problems, clients with terminal illnesses, and
clients with mental health issues are some of the areas in which I
have specialized in my career. Acupuncture offers unique treatments to
reduce both stress and anxiety and identify underlying disharmonies. Please
also refer to the pages of depression and
insomnia.
