Acupuncture
and other techniques that are used with acupuncture have a wide
variety of applications and treat a broad range of symptoms. Many
conditions and many of the body's systems can be successfully
treated with these techniques.
Acupuncture
is known for treating many symptoms that western medicine has a
difficulty with. In general, acupuncture is especially effective
with chronic conditions that are unresponsive to curative medical
intervention.

Philosophically, Chinese Medicine attempts to balance
the body's metabolism, hormones and other processes allowing the
body to re-establish health through the balancing mechanisms of
self-healing. Acupuncture does not, in its pure form, seek to cover
over symptoms but to bring about foundational change that enables
the body to reach balance, thus eliminating both the symptoms and the
underlying imbalance.
This
is not to say that acupuncture can not work on specific symptoms.
Research has been done to show the power of acupuncture to
immediately eliminate pain, nausea, cravings, and other conditions. Most recently, Dr. Marc Hochberg
of the University of Maryland presented his research findings at the American College of Rheumatology
that proved acupuncture
to be clinically important in the relief of pain with arthritis
(knee osteoarthritis).

An NIH consensus panel of scientists, researchers, and practitioners in 1997 determined that acupuncture has been clinically proven to be effective against nausea from surgery and chemotherapy, addiction,
headaches, menstrual cramps, tennis
elbow, fibromyalgia, myofascial pain,
osteoarthritis, lower back
pain, carpal tunnel syndrome, and asthma, and to assist in stroke rehabilitation. Since then, other studies have looked at pain, ADHD, pregnancy complications, and other diseases and conditions.
The
World Health Organization (WHO) has identified these following
symptoms and conditions that may successfully be treated with
acupuncture.
