IBS or Irritable Bowel Syndrome is a frequent diagnosis when medical patients complain of chronic diarrhea, constipation, bloating, abdominal pain, gas and heartburn. It is frequently the diagnosis when the actual cause of the complaints are not readily discernable. IBS episodes frequently are stress or emotionally related.

IBS is not a normal Chinese Medical diagnosis. In Chinese Medicine the symptoms of IBS cover a wide range of diagnoses and are individual and particular to the one suffering from this uncomfortable
disorder.

Chinese Medicine and acupuncture are forms of medicine that treat the functionality and interconnectedness of the body rather than structure or particular disease. In the case of IBS, treatment is geared toward balancing the transportation and transmutation of food into usable energy for body functions. In this case, the meridians that run through the Spleen and Stomach are predominant.

In general, acupuncture has an excellent reputation in the treatment of many gastrointestinal disorders and are backed up by research as well as thousands of years of experience
