Neck pain is a condition that most of us suffer from on occasion. The causes can be as simple as stress or sleeping in the wrong position. It can due to be muscular spasm, nerve impingement or ligament inflammation.

Muscular spasm generally occurs with the trapezius, sternocleido- mastoideus or possibly scalaneus muscles and can radiate down the back or onto the upper shoulders. Spasm can also occur in the splenus capitis, splenis cervicis, and levator scapula muscles. Acupuncture is used to reduce or eliminate spasm of the muscles thus relieving the painful condition.

Ligament inflammation occurs easily in injuries such as whiplash. This can become a chronic and debilitative condition over time if not treated effectively. Inflammation may also result from degenerative lower cervical vertebrae or subluxation of the vertebrae.

Acupuncture has been shown to reduce inflammations throughout the body when applied appropriately. There are numerous strategies for neck pain caused by inflammed ligaments or muscles.
